Introduction

This web posting site will be used to provide a narrative of our 2009 trip from Indianapolis to Alaska via motorcycle.

D: We started planning for this trip about two years ago. I wanted to go to Alaska on a fly/tour trip in 1993, but gave up after calculating the monetary cost for our whole family to make the trip in a two week vacation period. I have always dreamed of traveling the Alaskan Highway and finally decided that if we didn't go soon it might be too late, as my vision isn't getting better with age and stiff joints are more common.

From an original trip concept with more than one motorcycle, camping along the way, we are now set to ride "two up" on one motorcycle, staying overnight in motels. This should enable us to carry everything we need without overloading and give us a better chance of quickly recovering from bad weather days.
